Frequently Asked Questions
What is Friendzone?
Friendzone is a social organisation that runs community-building events and workshops for companies and neighbourhoods. Prior to COVID-19, we ran offline gatherings that focused on connecting young adults to form new friendships in their neighbourhoods.
Our dream is to Friendzone Singapore!
We hope to shift perspectives so all of us can experience our neighbourhoods, companies, schools, and organisations as places (zones) where we have friends 🎉
Who runs Friendzone?
Friendzone was founded back in early 2018 by a group of friends who were inspired by their university campus experience to connect young adults in their neighbourhoods. Our team has since grown with our mission to create meaningful connections and broaden perspectives.
The team currently consists of Tham, Valencia, Grace, Weina, Mark, Veena, Noel, & Isabel. We are grateful for the contributions of past teammates whom each laid a foundational layer of growth - Jonathan, Mark, Joash, Xueyin, Jeremy, Kelvin, Joshua & Song Yang.
Why the name Friendzone?
It's clickbait 👻😂
Got you to this page, didn't it?
Some associate the word "Friendzone" with dating or think it has a negative connotation. But we think it perfectly describes the heart of this project - to experience our communities (neighbourhoods, workplaces, city) as a place (a zone) where we can have friends.
We're not a dating platform!
If anything, we're ship-ing friendships, reclaiming the word "Friendzone" and making it a positive thing.
How can I get in contact with the team?
You can message us directly via our social media, or email us at firstname.lastname@example.org
Why does community matter?
Community matters because we aren't created to do life alone. We are unique people with our own strengths, interests, experiences, and passions that are complementary to others. We have things to give and contribute to others; and also perspectives and support that we can receive.
Community refers to the social context that we live in. Community matters because community is the context in which we fully come alive as we live in relation with others.
Why the focus on youths (18-35)?
Sure, there are many under-engaged communities; but the scope of community we're focusing on (which is already huge) is us (young adults)!
The problem of young people not knowing our neighbours is real and serious. Social isolation and homogenous social circles is an issue. We're all living in our own bubbles! 😱 There are also few opportunities for young adults to connect and make friends in their neighbourhoods.
Moreover in this time of crisis, we hope to provide fresh perspectives, new connections, and meaningful options for yall who are stuck at home. These are some of the gaps we hope to bridge through Friendzone.
By 18-35, we're referring to those in the life stages of Poly/ JC/ NS/ Uni/ ITE/ young working adults/ young families.
Besides neighbourhoods, what other communities do you work in?
We see ourselves as community animators = i.e. we bring communities to life through our customised programmes that are designed to facilitate the formation of meaningful friendships.
We work with companies and interest-based groups to customise community-building experiences for them. If you'd like Friendzone to animate your community, email us at email@example.com. We're excited to dream and make those dreams a reality with you!
What is Friendzone Online?
Uncomfortable with the phrase “social distancing”, we believe that we can stay #sociallyconnected while #safelydistant. Friendzone Online is a virtual community gathering to connect strangers over meaningful conversation!
In this time of disruption and isolation, we hope to contribute to #flatteningthecurve by hosting online gatherings for people to connect and form new friendships.
The programme of every session (format and discussion questions) is designed, curated and hosted by the Friendzone Team.
What if I'm over 35? Can I still join?
Sure! If you’re young at heart, we welcome you to join us. Friendzone started as an initiative for young adults, and we think that this target audience will appreciate our initiative.
What if I'm under 18? Can I still join?
If you're in the life stage of poly or JC or NS we welcome you to join us too!
I've been to one Friendzone Online session already for my neighbourhood. Can I come again?
Of course, we guarantee that you will be grouped with new people, form new connections and learn new things.
Is the programme the same for all session?
We're experimenting with new ideas all the time! There are some elements that will stay the same in our programmes, but we're certain it'll be a different experience each time as you'll be connecting with different people with different perspectives and backgrounds.
What happens at a session?
You’ll enjoy an hour of connecting with new friends over fun and meaningful conversations. There are 3 sections to each programme which take you through conversations on 3 different topics. We're not going to spill so much here, so join in to experience it for yourself!
In getting to know each other, maybe might even support another through these unusual times and lend some helpful perspective. Most of the session takes place in small groups of 3-4 who are grouped based on similarities (e.g. where you live) and differences (for diversity).
How are Friendzone's neighbourhood calls grouped?
Our objective is to connect young adults in a neighbourhood setting (ideally, you meet someone who lives near you). but we Singapore is actually pretty huge, so we tried to group areas geographically! We believe that there is value in connecting with people who live near us, such as sharing localised resources, food delivery orders, or volunteer opportunities.
Can I join in for a neighbourhood session that isn't where I live?
Preferably not. As described above, our intention is to connect young adults with their neighbours. It would be best that participants get to connect with other young adults in their respective neighbourhoods/regions.
When's the next session?
We're hosting events in several neighbourhoods over the next few months. Check out the event calendar here. If your neighbourhood isn't on the list, do join us for an open event (non-neighbourhood based) hosted on the first Friday of every month. In the meantime, leave your contact details with us to get updates on our next series of online gatherings for your neighbourhood.
Can Friendzone host a session for my organisation?
We're open! Send an email directly to us at .
