Truly - acquaintances are so valuable! They may not be our BFFs, but they broaden our horizons, bring us new opportunities and improve our interpersonal skills. Having acquaintances in our neighbourhoods can have many benefits - let’s explore some!
1) Friendly Faces!
Have you ever run into a friend unexpectedly? There’s a surprising joy in being greeted by a warm smile and a familiar face out of the blue! With interactions limited by pandemic regulations, a simple “Hello! How are you doing?” or a quick catch up at the bus stop could brighten someone’s day!
2) Tupperware Trading!
Know a #circuitbaker? Have you had the pleasure of receiving some slices of your neighbour’s freshly baked banana bread? In true kampung spirit, return your neighbour’s Tupperware with some homemade (or store-bought, we don’t judge) goodies of your own. When you have acquaintances living nearby, there are so many opportunities to spread the ‘loaf’!
3) Delivery Pooling!
Having acquaintances in the neighbourhood makes it easy to organise a group delivery! What are you waiting for ? Grab your neighbours and get to ordering! Huat ah!
4) Cultural Exposure!
No matter where you live in Singapore, there are people from all kinds of backgrounds and cultures living close by! There is value in getting to know people different from you. The next time you see a neighbour celebrating a festival, or you get a whiff of the makings of a delicious meal, why not ask about it? We may be stuck in Singapore for now, but we can discover new worlds if we connect with our neighbours!
